Fraud Deterrence, Prevention, and Detection, an AGA audio conference.

AGA is pleased to announce its latest audio conference on Fraud Deterrence, Prevention, and Detection

Four words precede every fraud: "It can't happen here." Usually, an accountability professional had warned the entity about vulnerabilities, but an attitude that fraud only happens to others precluded remedial actions. Seven very sad words follow every fraud: "We didn't think it could happen here."

Then, the accountability professional is either blamed for not speaking up more vehemently about the vulnerabilities or tasked with making sure it doesn't happen again. This session will focus on the three prongs of managing the risk of fraud:

  • Deterring fraud: sending a strong signal that chances of committing fraud without being detected are very low
  • Preventing fraud: installing fraud prevention procedures that serve to further deter fraud
  • Detecting fraud: installing procedures designed to identify as early as possible any frauds that get through the prevention net

Accountability professionals in all areas of the profession will benefit from this session structured around Managing the Business Risk of Fraud: A Practical Guide, published jointly by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, Institute of Internal Auditors, and American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Speaker: David L. Cotton, CGFM, CPA, CFE, chairman, Cotton & Company LLP, CPAs.
