Processing Wire Transactions in New AFIS

The new AFIS system has the capability of processing wire transactions that are initiated by an agency and approved by the State Treasurer’s Office (STO), through the use of the MDWT1 document.  This process is automated and does not require the issuance of a warrant to be taken to the STO.

The new wire process via the MDWT1 document is the preferred method for processing wires.  We recognize that there may be cases in which the MDWT1 process cannot be utilized.  As an example, if an agency interfaces GAX documents in mass amounts to new AFIS to produce warrants that are taken to the STO and used for the wire process, the MDWT1 process will not be feasible.  However, if an agency is processing a GAX document directly in new AFIS for the purpose of creating a wire transaction, the MDWT1 process should be utilized.

A quick reference guide (QRG) has been published to the GAO website at /trainingevents/training-resources that includes detailed instructions for processing MDWT1 documents.

If you have any questions about this new process, please contact your GAO liaison.
