State of Arizona Accounting Manual Undergoing Significant Changes

The State of Arizona Accounting Manual (SAAM), as part of the overall effort to modernize accounting processes of State Government, is getting a facelift. It is being rewritten and reorganized to make it in all respects easier to use. As part of this effort, the nature of technical bulletins will change, too—their policy content will be incorporated into the new SAAM and future technical bulletins may be used for other purposes.

Since the SAAM is meant to help you, the user, the GAO wants you, the user, to participate in making SAAM as useful as we can make it. None of us might like all the requirements imposed upon us by State and Federal laws, grant agreements, internal controls and the like, be we all want these requirements communicated as clearly and completely as possible. To that end, until final publication, which will coincide with the implementation of the State’s new accounting system, the GAO will be releasing drafts of upcoming policies. It is estimated that a few new policy drafts will be published each week for some months.

The GAO invites agency management and other interested personnel to review the drafts and comment. Comments should be sent to [email protected]. All comments will be considered and possibly incorporated into the new SAAM.

A news story will be circulated, providing some details, each time a new policy draft is posted.
