Unique Entity Identifier

On April 4, the federal government is moving away from the DUNS Number as its official entity identifier and toward the new Unique Entity ID (UEI), which will be generated in SAM.gov.

Prime awardees should communicate with all of their sub-awardees and ask each one for their UEI prior to April 4. Entities that already have a UEI can find it by following this FAQ, available at the Federal Service Desk (FSD.gov). If you can’t find your sub-awardee’s UEI, it likely means they don’t have one yet. Sub-awardees should be contacted directly to ensure they get a UEI at SAM.gov.

The UEI becomes authoritative April 4th.  The authoritative unique entity identifier to use for subaward reporting prior to April 4th is the DUNS number.
