End of Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA)

Earlier this year, the Federal government passed the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA), which is in effect from April 1 - December 31, 2020.  This law provides two types of paid leave for COVID-19 reasons: Emergency Paid Sick Leave (EPSL) and Expanded Family Medical Leave (EFML).

This communication is to inform you that with the end of the FFCRA on December 31, 2020, employees currently on EPSL or EFML will need to convert to another form of leave, since these leaves are no longer legally authorized or available.  Employees who need leave for reasons related to COVID-19 on or after January 1, 2021 should work with their supervisors and Human Resources regarding which type of leave is appropriate for their situations.

Please work within your agencies to ensure that the employees who are currently on EPSL or EFML are made aware of this deadline as soon as possible and their need to change their leave status by January 1, 2021.  If you need assistance with this, please email the COVID-19 Questions email box or contact HRD and we will be happy to help.

An updated COVID-19 Paycode Matrix for PR and HR Practitioners has been posted the Agency Payroll Guide.

Impacted employees may have a number of questions, so we have developed a Q&A document that may be a helpful resource.  It is attached to this email.
