A SAAM Update, effective July 3, 2017

A new Section, Section 4016, Payment Card Industry (PCI) Compliance, has been added to the State of Arizona Accounting Manual and posted to the GAO website at:  /publications/saam.

This policy statement reflects the collaborative efforts of the Office of the State Treasurer, the Arizona State Library, Archives & Public Records Division of the Office of the Secretary of State, as well as the following units of the Arizona Department of Administration:  the Arizona Strategic Enterprise Technology Office , the State Procurement Office and the General Accounting Office.

This section of SAAM is the first in what is likely to be a series of publications dealing with the topic of Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliance.  The PCI governs the use of credit cards and strives to protect credit card holders’ data.  Failure to comply with PCI standards could result in the State’s being denied the ability to accept credit cards to discharge amounts due to the State.

This section of SAAM details some measures that should implemented by agencies, sets forth information as to where additional information the topic may be found, and announces steps that will be taken in the very near future to assure compliance with PCI Data Security Standards.
