The FY24 annual encumbrance sweep, scheduled for Saturday, August 3, 2024, requires more time to complete than initially planned.

While the encumbrance sweep is still in progress, agencies can expect to experience negative encumbrance balances at applicable departmental budget structure levels. Agencies are not required to take action on negative encumbrance balances. 

The General Accounting Office (GAO) Operations team will update agencies on the progress on the FY24 annual encumbrance sweep as information becomes available.
